Jack and Jackstand height
What Jack and Jackstand height should I be looking for, not a specific jack I'm looking for there's a lot of posts on that already. I'm wondering what height is good for working under the car such as if I'm installing an exhaust or headers.

This varies. I've used a jack and jack stand set bought from AutoZone with no problems. The height of them was just about 14". Cleared enough room for me and i'm a skinny guy.

I have a Harbor Freight 68050. It has a lifting height of 23.5", which is plenty for nearly anything you want to do. HF has jack stands that also reach 23.5", so that works out very nicely.

if I'm just changing the oil, I set my jack stand to the 2nd hole from the top (~12"). if I'm working under the car for stuff like exhaust or installing things, I set my jack stand to the 3rd or 4th hole from the top (~14"-16"), depending on how much clearance I need. as for jack, I bought a low clearance truck jack from Costco a few years back, for like $100. I just jack up my car from the front cross member or the rear diff. slides under my car easily at stock height with extra room to spare.

You also have to consider how long the jack is front to back, and if you'll have any usable range on the handle once the jack is shoved all the way under the car.
Here's a post I did on mine. My jack is pretty long, and I still don't have full range of motion when using the rear jack point. |

Keep an eye on slickdeals or set up an alert. They usually have deals on jacks and stands

That depends upon your age.
16-24 - run it up on a couple of 4x4s 25-35 - standard ramps 36-50 - standard jack stands 51- 65 - a hoist 65+ - a hoist at a shop ..... while you watch from the waiting room ![]() humfrz |

It totally is worth it. Stock height the harbor freight 3 ton jack fits fine and has acceptable handle clearance. If you are low low like me you need low ramps or a low jack to lift the car to put the tall jack under it. It's a pain but it's the way it's gotta be

If you can fit under the car and the jack stands are within their usable range, then use that height.
