M/T and idling over speed bumps - jerking
2015 Brz sport-tech m/t, this is my first m/t car so perhaps I'm just clueless.
Whenever I go over a speed bump at low speed in gear (8-15kmph) the car will be in gear and I let it creep over the speed bump, as the car goes over the speed bump the vehicle will begin to rock (in the same manner it would if you drop the clutch at low revs) but 1st gear is engaged and my foot isn't on the clutch - is this a characteristic of the car or should I be doing something different? |

It's not like an automatic where you can just use the brake at low speed and let the engine and transmission do the work for you. At low speed you have to work the clutch, give it some gas if necessary, coast if necessary. You don't want to lug the engine because the oil pressure will drop too low and not lubricate properly, resulting in premature wear. If you have to go so slow that your RPMs drop low enough that you're lugging, clutch in and coast instead, giving it a bump as necessary to keep yourself moving.

it takes effort to go over a bump right? how much power does the car have at idle? of course it'll bog down for a second.

Yea depending on the size of the bump, you'll probably have to ride the clutch and give it a little throttle to go over smoothly. It's fun once you get the hang of it
