you can put it back to stock for the test. if you leave the turbo on, even if you pass the sniffer, the car will still fail the visual test.

from what i hear, there are still some shops that can do that and the going rate is around the $300+ range... but these places are becoming harder to find since the BAR has been cracking down hard on smog shops and a lot of shops are even too paranoid about even passing something simple as an aftermarket air filter.

Keep it registered there lol There are complications of course with doing that, but its an option to check out. |

The issue comes up that if you change your address with the dmv here, but not the car, you can get in trouble when pulled over, issues with insurance etc. Like I said, its a hassle haha. Most likely (which sucks) it'll be easier to go back to stock for the test. Or, has anyone with the SBD kit smogged before? If you could find out, it might pass the test, just not the visual test...otherwise the issue is that smog shops are super careful now if they do "shady" tests, so it'll be tough to find one to pass the car as is. And someone would have to pm you that shop/person, since posting it here would just be asking for trouble. |

Just so you all know, and I found this out the hard way- it doesn't matter where your car is registered. To use a vehicle on California highways, it must meet California laws. (EVEN IF YOU'RE MILITARY) You do not have to register a car here, for example military and out-of-state students are exempt from registration requirements; however, stipulations that require a registration in CA are moot when it comes to mods. I was visiting a friend here, and my car was totaly legal in WA where I was registered & lived, but I still got a smog ticket for a modified intake manifold here in Commiefornia. The law is clear that to operate a motorvehicle on California highways, you must comply with California laws. You might get away with a vehicle registered elsewhere, but if you get a cop & judge who cares, you'll be out $1000 or more. Ask me how I know.
I'm still not sure why I chose to move here. Oh yeah, beaches and babes.
