It seems as if all new designs these days are all thin multi-spoke. Is it the easy way out for light weight? Where are all of the 5-6 spoke flow formed wheels?

Regamasters, Equips, TE37, GT/TCIII, etc. I haven't done a ton of research on new wheels lately but if you want something like that, you're going to be spending $2k+.

My Enkie Kojin's were less than 800 bucks. 17 by 9

They're nice, I'd definitely consider using those. Wish they'd have a slightly more aggressive offset! Maybe a +35-40 but spacers aren't expensive!
