Automatic transmission clunk when stopping

Hey guys,

I saw a lot of posts regarding the manual tranny going from 2nd to 1st when stopping and there being a clunk around 17. But I didn't see much regarding the AT. I had a hard clunk at 9mph when braking. It did it one trip months ago but started up again today after a long drive. Has anyone else had this? It's right at 9mph and it makes the car jerk when breaking. Sometimes it's really hard, sometimes a bit softer.

I get the same thing sometimes when I am in manual mode, right around that 9 MPH mark. It only happens when I manually shift down from 2-1 though. If I let it shift itself, the jerk is nowhere near as bad.

Hm ya I get the down shift jerks if I use manual mode. But that seems pretty normal. This feels a lot like with what people are talking about with the manuals entering first gear...but I can't find anything for someone with an automatic.

I realized later every time it's happened I believe a CEL has come on that day...but the CELs gave been different. One was for the cat which had to do with new aftermarket headers. Then 2 codes regarding my tune for vvt. But that shouldn't have to do with the tranny

I've had that same problem but only when the CEL comes on due to the loose gas cap. Someone told me it was on some "limp" mode. Cleared the CEL with torque app and everything is fine now.

I knew it was going into limp mode I just didn't think limp mode would make it feel like it was breaking itself further

Yea I got scared something was wrong. It happened after installing my muffler delete. But clear the code and it should be fine if you have a CEL
