Are the tow hook license plate theft proof?

I just now realize that its easily removable. Has anyone ran into missing one?

if you have the proper size hex screwdrivers and wrench, then yeah it'd be pretty simple to take off. it'll still take a couple minutes though, which will increase the chances of getting caught by someone... but then again relatively, it's still a lot quicker than someone trying to jack wheels i guess so in that sense it's pretty easy.

If someone wants something bad enough they will take it.

If you can put it on, someone can take it off.

Shouldn't be running into any issues though, otherwise peoples tow hooks would go missing as well

although there was a vid of some dude in a black wrx trying to steal one in the OC area a while back but failed because he was a knob

Still doesn't do jack.

I've had the Grimmspeed plate mount before. I now have the Raceseng plate mount.

Both are easily stolen in about 5 minutes of work or less, you simply just twist the license plate really hard and it will come undone. The base shaft is easily removed with a moderate size ratchet.

Much like most "simple" mods, you live with the fact that a motivated thief will steal it.

This is one of the reasons why I sold the plate relocator. I didn't want to potentially lose the front plate when stolen. Rather not lose something I paid for, even if it may not happen.

Another reason may be a bit paranoid but I didn't want water, say on a rainy day, to be blown back towards the thread while driving, begin to accumulate, and possibly show rust despite my putting grease and other stuff on the threads. I mean I just saw on an earlier post by Alex that shows how easily items rust on this car. Again, probably my paranoia.

I don't think anything is theft proof.
