10w 30 from the dealer

Ok so i carry my FRS to the dealer and i see boxes of 10w 30 motor oil being carried to put in my car. I was told when asked that it is perfectly fine for the car, which surprised me

The car is a DD with occasional track days. I live in the tropics so ambient temps are 75 to 95

What do you guys think is it fine. Should i just wait 5000k till the next service and change to 0w 20.

Tell them it's not in accordance with any of your documentation. Ask for a copy of theirs.

You know, if you put the wrong oil in on your own and then came to the dealer with a motor issue, they would be quick to blame you for the issue telling you that you were using the wrong oil.

If the receipt shows they used the wrong oil, I would go back with your manual and ask them to change it to the correct viscosity. The 10W-30 may not have even been synthetic! Doubt it would "hurt" the engine, but who knows! Make them do it right!

Yep, I'm sure it will ruin it.

That's Ford, for instance, takes the exact same engine in the GT Mustang's and runs it on 5w-20, but in the Track Pack (now Performance Pack) cars they run 5w-50.

In the Subaru manual it even says thicker oil is appropriate for high performance use. Where he lives, he's never going to have to worry about the cold pour point of 10w-30.

I will assume this is sarcasm?

I spoke to a senior person at the dealership and they will change the oil at no charge

0W-20 is really only there to improve gas mileage and to work in all climate ranges.

You can run a thicker oil for the correct ambient temperature range with no harm to the engine.

It will run just fine. I'm assuming you're NA but most FI guys are running 5w30 or higher, myself included. If you're not comfortable with it then change it out, but as long as it's synthetic I wouldn't worry about it.

Running 5w30 in my NA FRS. I do see a 2-3 MPG hit from 0w20.

Gonna run the 0 20w. What i have noticed with the 10w 30 is that warmup times are much longer. That is a problem as my daily route is about 10 - 15 min. So the car wont be warm till the end of the journey.

hope to change it by next week
