temperature range of differential?

I want to put a temp. gauge in my diff. this winter - does anybody know what the temp. range of a DD rear is. I live in Maryland - our temps here range from 10 F to 100 F. Thanx!

I really don't know ...... but, I do feel that the differential would be one of the last of the moving parts in your car, to overheat and cause a problem .....

It's really not going to be stressed under street conditions but rear differentials can get 300 degrees in general under racing conditions. I've never actually put a temp sensor in my FRS diff however.

if the oil goes over 140 degrees Celcius then it'll break down and your diff bearings will fail

so get a gauge that reads up to 140 Deg C

I'm bringing this back from the dead!

I'm curious about the same thing, but only because I've got a mechanical LSD installed and do track days.. So I'm wondering if I'm just being paranoid, or if I should invest in a cooler or larger capacity cover. Any thoughts from the guys racing these with aftermarket diffs?
