New Tranny after 4500 miles :(
I started to notice the tranny was getting a bit funky a couple of days ago. It happens when I go over 5000 rpm, sometimes even higher, and shift to 4th gear, there is some kind of grinding noise. It comes and go but never at under 4000 rpm. Other gears are all fine.
I went to the dealership today, the technician said it could be the synchro but they wouldn't take it out and see. What they do is just order a new transmission and put it in whenever they get it from the factory. Does anybody have the same problem? The car is almost new, bought 4 months ago and has done 4500 miles. Haven't been tracked, occasional spirited driving but nothing too crazy. |

Yes, this is a problem. It is listed in the part of the forum about recalls, TSB, issues etc. It is not a common problem, it is just an issue a small percentage of owners. I am sure it happens across all brands/makes
really sucks tho man. I hope you get a new one quickly.

I had a similar issue in 4th only and after it warmed up and past 5k (annoying as fuck)
Dealer swapped the tranny ASAP. |

The rental car I drove had a noticeably munched 2nd gear synchro. I don't think these transmissions are all that strong. When you see pictures of stripped out gears and aftermarket companies rushing upgraded gears to market, something is up.
I'll be watching mine and if it fails I'll take the new one and then I'll take the old home and start building a beefy one in that case. I beat the crap out of machines, though. People who drive like humans should never have to deal with transmission failures. Sorry you had to mess with something like this.

I am thankful I am in the crowd that didn't have an issue. After going FI, making other major mods and hammering the snot out of the thing daily - it runs smoothly - so far.
Sorry to hear it! |

Also, aftermarket rushes everything to market, regardless of it's usefulness or brokenness. |

Do you think I should be concerned and try not to drive my car as much since the dealership told me there is a good chance they might get the parts after holiday season? |

I'm in the same boat. I have a 2015 Series Blue, is it harder to shift? |

I've experienced this as well. Shifting into 5th above 5k is really notchy and requires extra force and time to go in properly. All other gears slide in easy. I just trained myself to take a little extra care with that gear.

![]() The stripped gear pics appear to be from cars that are making double the power, Rasty and those folks. They are also destroying driveshafts and twisting the muffler around the flopping bit like spaghetti.

My 6th gear sychro broke too. Shifting into 6th without a perfect rev match resulted in much grinding. Even a double clutching barely made a difference.
Dealer replaced the synchro and all is well! Only problem now is it's colder so 2nd is a bit hit & miss for a while. |
