Hi all,
Just picked up a 2013 BRZ last Friday, woo! I love it, but someone boosted the SD card out of the stereo while it was on the lot. It's the stock stereo / nav, the FA601US unit. The dealer ordered an SD card on eBay, but it doesn't seem to work. Without the card, I get this error: Program loading is necessary. Please insert SD card. 441004 With the card from eBay, I just get a blank screen. In the dark, it looks like the screen blinks from off to on-but-black back to off. I plugged the card into an SD reader and ran the update through the Subaru Navigation Map Update Toolbox but that didn't change anything. I'll bring it by a Subaru dealer tomorrow, but if anyone has any suggestions in the meantime they'd be much appreciated. I'll update this when I get it working either way - I've seen a few people that seem to have the same problem but I haven't found a solution online anywhere. Thanks! I think the SD cards are encrypted so you can't just use any SD card. You have to order one from the Nav site or get the dealer to order one for you.

I called a couple of Subaru dealers and while Cityside Subaru in Belmont couldn't be bothered to help at all, Patrick Subaru in Shrewsbury let me know that not even all official Subaru SD cards will work as they are very specifically tied to the particular car. I brought the eBay card back to RT28 Motors in Reading where I got the car, and Brad there is currently working on getting me one directly from a Subaru dealer. Hopefully that works, but I'll update this either way. |

This is finally fixed! Craig at Quirk Works Subaru in Braintree, MA ordered a new SD card specifically for my car, it came in a few days later, and it was covered under warranty.
Good to go. |
