Anybody knows what type of brake fluid our car have? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I was talking to a track day group about if I need to do anything to the BRZ to make it track-ready. They told me I am most likely be needing to change my brake fluid to a synthetic type fluid. Anybody know what type is in the stock cars? And if I go buy the fluid myself will the dealership be able to change it for me? (I just hit 3200Miles so I am planning to get the service done before my track day)

I wouldn't go to the dealer. They'll ask uncomfortable questions like, "Why does it need to be changed at 3200 miles?" And "Oh, you're tracking it? Let me make a note of that for any future warranty claims."

The owners manual will give the specs for the OEM brake fluid.

The track thread is a good one to read. On the specific topic of brake fluid you need to have high temperature racing fluid.

Also important are upgraded brake pads. Unless this is your first time at the track, you will probably end up fading the stock pads.

Yes 100% change the brake fluid and get better brake pads. Don't be like the countless first timers that have a bad day because they boil their fluid and smoke their pads.

Kind of depends what type of track, how hard you will run the car/braking ambient temperature, mileage on stock pads etc, etc. (In other words---variables). I ran my first HPDE at Summit Point last November on the main circuit and ran stock pads and fluid and only had one time in two days where I thought the pedal got just a little soft. Am still driving on those pads. I bought upgraded brake lines and fluid (Motul 5.1) from Mach V Motorsports in Virginia to change them but lost use of my garage last spring/summer due to addition being added over the garage.

You might want to PM DAVE-ROR on here and he can possibly steer you to reputable places in Florida to deal with. Check the Southeast forum section too.

Use DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 but do NOT use DOT 5, as it is not hygroscopic and will allow condensation to build up in your system until it possibly causes corrosion or until you flush it.

DOT 3 from the factory. DOT 3, 4, and 5.1 are interchangeable and compatible with each other in a pinch.

DOT 5 is silicone based and not for use in ABS systems as it foams.

How many liters does the BRZ take?

1L is more than enough to do a full flush. If you are really careful you might be able to do it with 500ml.
