Cooked my brake fluid!!!
I ran my second HPDE this weekend, the car is over a year old, and my stock brake fluid rapidly degraded. It had no noticeable change after the first track day last year, but the result this time were this:
I didn't notice any color change until after the last session, when I noticed I had spongy brakes at the end of the last session(clearly boiled some fluid), and then the color changed significantly. I find it odd that it would go that quickly. I've tracked with toyota stock fluid in my last car, and never had this happen. I also checked the other 3 FR-S at the track, and their fluid is the proper color (their cars are all newer). Is subaru brake fluid known for doing this? Is is simply designed to change color to indicate it needs replaced? Or is their possibly some other problem? |

You're just improving as a driver (and your original fluid is getting old). Time to step up to a better fluid.

I find it odd that you didnt notice any fluid boiling before on your first session! Youre simply braking harder than you initially did. Time to step up to race pads and high temp fluid. I recommend carbotech pads.

Looks like a nice aged whiskey. Get rid of it save the headaches, it's not designed for steady high temps.

interesting................I have found my FRS brake fluid just fine, but the pads are horrible...granted I am a racer who pushes the car quite hard.....but I don't think 1 year old fluid will boil.....
The stock brakes are good for maybe 15 minutes at best when pushed hard...I think your driving improved and now you are pushing beyond the limits of the stock brake pads.....fresh pads and better fluid will solve the issue... My example...when I run on track I run with all traction control off.... I can almost make a 20min session before the brakes are cooked....with traction in sport mode....5-6 minutes at best.... A properly setup brake system will run for HOURS with no issues......my racer can run for around 25 hours before the pads wear to a point I need to replace them and change the fluid |

The Motul and Elf HTX brake fluids are what I've used a in a variety of cars for years and never had any brake fading issues. Contact Barry at Performance Oil Store (www.PerformanceOilStore.com) for either brake fluid.

A few guys at the track cooked their brake fluid on stock pads, fluids, AND tires this past weekend. Novices too.
Maybe we need to put together a "first time track go-er" package. |

Cooked fluid does not mean better driver. All it tells you is you are using your brakes harder than the fluid can withstand.
Not saying you are one but I have seen bad drivers, who think that flailing the car back-and-forth and side-to-side braking as hard as they can makes them faster around the track, cook their fluid and pads. /ducks for cover |
