Turbo noob
I was looking through all the turbo threads, and I know HOW they work, and what they do and all that, but I'd like to know a bit more. Is there a thread that details what the specs of each are?
More specifically I was looking at a Full Blown stage 1, and saw that they have 8 different options. The names of the turbos are rather cryptic as well, T3 50 trim, GT2871R, and PTE5558 for example, and I can't tell what would be overkill, or what would be acceptable. My end goal is ~250whp on 93 octane, and whatever boost E85 would get me on the days I'd track my car. |

google, google, and more google.
..and then google some more. Every time you come across something that you don't know what it is: google. That's what I do. Then, once you understand what all of it means, you can start asking meaningful questions. 250whp on 93 octane is more than doable. I don't even know that anybody is getting that low of a number on any turbo or centrifugal SC kit. The average for low boost on 93 with most of the kits is in the 290-320 range.

pretty much the name is related to company. for example the gt28 series is from garret turbo while the pte is from precision.

As others have stated, you will find more info and recommendations on Google. Do that first before wasting both your and the vendor's time calling around.

Any of the turbos LJ @FullBlown offers will get you to your goal of 250 whp and 93 octane. They can change how much you will make on E85 though. The kit was originally offered with only a GT2871R or a GTX2867, but then a vendor who shall remain nameless started offereing much cheaper turbo kits using the cheaper non ball bearing turbos. It really comes down to how much you want to pay and whether you want a water cooled turbo or not. I would tell you to just get the GT2871R as that is what I had and it is more than capable of meeting your goals.

On the street the 2871 is hard, if not impossible to beat for the money.

Like I said, I know how turbos work, but I wasn't sure of the naming nomenclature the companies use. For example, an Nvidia 560TI is better than a 550TI, but not nearly as good as a 770. |
