Lexus V8 ( 1uz-fe ) into gt86

Have been gathering up parts for my conversion over the last month. Mostly waiting on Toyota as I've only been buying new parts - apart from the motor.

Finally got stuck in today.

Did up a quick slide show here...

What's your goal with it?
I would be happy with your skill level on the 86 but I am a noob so yeah.
Keep up the good work.

I want it to effortlessly break traction at any rev point in 3rd gear, and be able to hold 4th if I hit it. (It'll easily do both of those things)

I also want it to be bullet proof. Not these 150hp grenades with 400hp turbos attached to them for dyno numbers / highway pulls / forum wank fests. I'm talking rape it for a 90 minute session at the track over and over, then drive home, reliable.

And I also wanted a motor that could do both of those things, and also be cheap to replace should it need to be.

They're my main goals. Means I can do what I want to do in the car, and do it without mercy, but also look forward to using it on a daily basis when I'm just puttering to work and back.

What was the reason for picking the Lexus engine over an LS?

Can't view the pics/video at work but kudos for what I'm sure is an amazing build

Considering that it's built by Subaru, that reason would seem a little silly.

True, my statement does seem a little silly now that I think about it. I'll chalk that up to this being the first time in my life where I bought car from one manufacturer that had someone else's engine in it.

Because the 1UZ sounds like PURE SEXXX. At least that's why I would do it.

I very excitedly clicked on this thread, because I had this same swap in mind.

About 45kg is my estimate. But I've taken corner weights and will do so again once the conversion is complete.

That might sound like a lot, but keep in mind that a turbo or supercharger is adding 20 - 30kg, depending on the kit.

To get some of that weight penalty back, a smaller battery saves 10kg, decent wheels save another 8kg, two piece brake discs another 8kg.

So you're left with 10kg, maybe 20kg at most of additional front weight over the front compared with a stock 86. Which is nothing.

Its about the same as a stock 86 thats got 18x9.5 rotas with 265 tyres on the front.

That's really not bad, actually. Maybe when putting in a small battery, you could relocate the battery to the trunk to help to balance the added weight from the block. There might be more at the front that you could relocate to the rear, as well.
