Weird issue with oft not reading cel

Just had a cel come up but the oft said no cel present. Cycled both the car and the oft multiple times to no avail.

I'm pretty sure it is the same code I have been getting for a bit now which is the ignition coil 1 error p0351. Need to get the dealer to check it out.

I ended up flashing the newest ROM that I hadn't flashed yet and that cleared it.

Anyone see this with OFT before?

OFT only reads codes from Engine ECU, if code is from other computer ie body control unit it will say no codes.

OFT will clear all codes though.

Read the code with torque or similar.

flashing a rom resets ECU and hence clears codes.

Do you have an automatic transmission? If so, flashing the ECU will trigger a CEL (transmission control unit fault). This is normal and it will clear after a little bit of driving. During this time, the OFT will not read any codes (since it's not engine related).

Interesting - I have an AT and I have never seen this happen.

It's uncommon. I saw it the first time I flashed, none of the several times after that.

The code shouldn't be ROM related. Most likely a bad coil which is something i've heard reports of before.

No auto. The CEL happened when it was wet out and I lost traction in first gear.

I just thought it was very strange that a cel popped up and I wasn't able to see it or reset it with the tablet.

Flashing the newest map resolved it just because it wipes everything when flashing a new ROM.

The p0351 keeps coming up at higher rpms and from what I read here it is pretty common. Going to take it into the dealer next week.
