nudge in the right direction for FI?
Newbie, and this is a hypothetical question as im still relatively new to my car and id probably be doing any type of modifications on the car much later on.(year or so, 6-7 months minimum)
This isnt really a question of which super charger to pick or which turbo, i have those in mind. Im digging the jackson racing super charger kit, but ALL and literally, ALL my friends are saying its pointless to take my brz on a SC kit and i should go turbo no matter what...anybody agree with this? can someone point out some pros and cons of everyday driving? ive been lurking these forums doing my research but i feel a nice short paraphrase run down would set me straight. also, if i was to avoid doing a large SC or Turbo upgrade, does using a OFT with a new exhaust and cool intake make a large difference in HP for the car? Will it void my warranty or is it another one of those "possibly but you cant be too sure" things, since i know sc and turbo will almost defintely void that ish ![]() im posting in this section because if i did choose something to go with, im not a big DIY guy so id have to find a place to install for me, im in the norristown/king of prussia area is PA and i live in Delaware so any suggestions or good reviews for a place i could go to get my work done? thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer this newb, the lurking is tiring without ever finding a real answer that i want

What are your goals with the car? That's the first question to ask yourself.
SC will give you a more linear feel and probably better for daily driving around on the streets. Turbo is less linear and produces more heat a bit more complicated to add aftermarket. Turbo will void your warranty. You are completely changing the way it was designed to run, putting more stress on the components in the process. You can't turbo your car, throw a rod, call your dealer and say "Yea, so like idk what happened my motor just broke. Can this be fixed under warranty??". Even if you take the kit off, they will be able to see parts/bolts were loosened and removed.
If you rely on your car as an only means of transportation you may want to hold off. Stuff breaks, needs tweaking etc with aftermarket kits. Plus if something goes wrong with your install or even 200-1000 miles after the install and your motor blows, are you prepared to deal with it? It has happened, there's a thread with a list of people who blew their motors along with a few details about their kit and what happened. Yes, I know, plenty run kits for 10's of thousands of miles with out an issue, but stuff happens. I'm personally going to finish paying it off, buy a good year round commuter, possibly a WRX, and turn my BRZ into a turbo weekend toy. I also don't go to the track or anything, it would be purely for daily driving fun, so it may not even be worth it for me to spend $6000 for that. Last edited by B-R-Z; 09-09-2014 at 11:09 AM. |

As a street car, S/C was the way to go for me. On demand power at only 9psi with less components than average turbo setup.
