Question for any amateur/pro mechanics here...
In a rainstorm last night I was doing some skid-pad style tests of my car's wet weather traction limits in an empty parking lot (going about 15 mph, full lock) when after about 5 minutes of playing around I heard a sudden, sharp bang from underneath the car - it sounded like (and may have been) a rock chunk banging up into the underside at some speed. The sound did not appear localized to any wheel well. No simultaneous sensation came through the pedals, steering, or the seat at the time, and several more minutes of sharp steering, hard accelerating, and braking revealed no handling or ride differences post-bang.
I'll monitor for a slow leak in a tire but it's likely a loud bang like that if it was tire related would have resulted in a quick deflation. Is there anything else I should inspect or watch out for? I would think that if a major suspension or steering component had broken it would have been evident immediately afterwards but I have yet to take it up past 40-45 mph as I have not been on the highway since. |

Check all fluids for leaks, tires, ext.
Any weird rattles? No handling differences? Crawl under it if you can and see if there is any visible damage. |

Thanks jebuwh - checked for leaks, rattles, drove it some more - seems fine. Went back to the parking lot in daylight and looked around and I could see a few loose rock chunks a couple inches in diameter that were clearly abraded around where I was hooning- pretty sure now it was one of those I flung up under the car.

pretty sure it must have been a stone or rock, would be very hard to break suspension components just by hooning a stock car a little bit
