It's supposed to do that.

In the old days, they used to just check the e-brake or if the automatic was in park to allow the unit to do things like watch a movie or the like. Now they also check vehicle speed for redundancy.

Stop messing with the e-brake

they don't recommend you driving around with it engaged, they recommend short periods 30 sec or so, under a slower speed, coming to a stop to bed the parking brake shoes.

Are you sure it's in the manual? If so it probably shouldn't be, at least not for the pads and rotor face. The parking brake is a drum system inside the center of the rotor, so all you are doing is "bedding" the shoes and the drum.

I don't think I've tried it but the US has a different radio anyways so it might not do the same thing here.. but no haven't tried it, sorry

I did the procedure as in the manual, did not get a message, you do get a bit of a clunk though which would be normal
