Yes, you read correctly. The SAAQ has prohibited you to "hellaflush" your vehicle, even using the term on its website:

Hellaflush

Hellaflush is a practice of cosmetic modifications that comes to the detriment of handling and road holding capabilities which consist of:

Lowering the suspension of the vehicle
Installing oversized and offset wheels (offset greater than of the stock wheels)
Installing tires too narrow for the wheels (tire stretching).
These modifications,that affect the geometry of the vehicles suspension, are generally observed by the presence of exaggerated negative camber. This is an overview of the principals of hellaflush and the reason this practice is prohibited.

I'm sorry but there is just something amusing at the thought of an official government body using that word. Their description of what it means is dead on though. Maybe the SAAQ is cooler than we thought? I don't think this is an entirely new law with regard to the tires, but it's the first time I've noticed that particular word on the SAAQ website.

So what does this mean for fans of "stanced" or "hellaflush" vehicles? If you drive on public roads you risk getting sent for inspection. Where the line is between hellaflush and not hellaflush is unclear. The SAAQ just defers to a site called the Tire and Rim Association which is based in the U.S.A. This is something that needs to be resolved.

I wonder what they're going to use to determine how low is too low, how much negative offset is too much, how much stretch is too much stretch?

Sounds like the first step down a tricky slope of just outright banning vehicle modification altogether. Now I don't see that actually happening, but why stop it here?

Many states already have laws requiring the headlights to be a set height or higher than the road and they have laws stating that the tires must be within the fenders. I could see them using the tire manufacturer's recommended rim range as a guide to telling how much stretch is too much, and a reasonable negative camber rule could be -4 degrees.

I knew about the headlights thing. Never really considered it though. Fenders I thought was more of a European/Aussie thing, hence the whole starting of stretch. If they go by tire manufacturers, I wonder how long before a flush-friendly manufacturer comes into business?

Tire manufacturers need that DOT stamp, I am sure the gubment could make them test each end of their recommended rim width spec, haha.

I think Canadian cars have to have regular inspections, add in a ground clearance test "Must traverse this regulation speed bump without bottoming out"

I don't think they can regulate the tires in a way that would be cost effective.

In any case, they never banned whistle tips, low riders, donks, rat rods, lifted trucks, or rice. It will pass, I'm already seeing less and less every month.
