Proper way to shine your tires

I'm sick of armor-all sprays and those types of products, they never dry properly and you always end up with little black dots on your car where the spray has been thrown from the tire and onto the body and collected every bit of dust possible. Even the dealer I got my 86 from put some kind of tire shine on there that did that. But there has to be a way to get the tire shine without getting all that nasty spray from the tires since it refuses to dry. Any help?

I use the liquid spray kind and have a specific rag for rubbing it into the tire. I make sure not to get it on the rim or body, and after rubbing it down, there's no drips. Tires stay shiny for a long enough time and nothing else is harmed!

By rubbing it in you mean like with hard pressure as if you were polishing something? And do you spray onto the rag or just onto the tire?

Spray onto tire and then a light rubdown so that there are no liquid drops left. Should be a real shiny tire after that!

I use Griot's Garage products on my tires (although I've used other stuff in the past). To apply tire dressing, I use one of their blue detail sponges and spray the tire dressing onto the sponge, then rub that into the tire. I never spray directly on the tire.

Adams VRT is excellent- never hear of a client complaining about it slinging!

When applying- I find that using a MF applicator or MF block does a great job of gettin it on there nice and even.
Pro tip/trick- use a heat gun on the low setting- warm the sidewall of the tire, apply dressing- generally a light second coat is needed- heating the tire allows the dressing to penetrate deeper.

Nifty. Have to give that a try.

I generally used the grape flavored Meguiar's with a tire applicator, and make sure not to leave any excess. Never had an issue with splatter.

Tire sprays are stupid. I don't know why they make them or why people like them. You always get overspray. So if you do it after washing the car, you get tire shine on your clean paint and rims, but if you do it before washing you wash away the shine.

I prefer the kind that uses an applicator. My current favorite is Black Magic Tire Wax. A really good shine and no sling. I just started using it, so I don't have durability experience yet, but I was happy with the previous product from Black Magic.

Spray it on to a damp sponge. Aerospace 303 +3

303 is great, but I like using Megs Tire Gel. I have a sponge dedicated solely to tire shine. Apply to the sponge, wipe it on clean and dry tires, and let it sit while I do the rest of the wheels. Then I return to the first wheel with a clean cloth and wipe off the excess so it wont sling.
