Clunk/Thump on first and second gear.

So I have had my frs for 2 weeks now and I noticed an unusual clunk that you can hear and feel when you're at idle and throw it into first gear. I noticed it doesn't do it all the time nor when the car is cold.. So I took it into the dealer to have it checked out since I'm still breaking in the motor. I just hit 500 miles and they told me that they have got that complain a lot from many people and that it is just a "characteristic" of the frs. I was told that Toyota knows about the issue and is working towards a fix for that... Couldn't find threads on this.. Anyone else has that? Or heard anything? Sounds fishy to me. I took my car back. The only benefiting thing he told me was since there is no repairs found yet to correct the issue which makes no sense to me...he said if anything happens to the tranny I should be covered since I notified them and took it in..

Its a common sound with the stock fluid and a fluid change will fix it.

I should also add that many people are having issues with their transmission grinding going from 5th to 6th or 6th to 5th but that usually doesn't appear to you get over 10,000 miles.

Wow seems like nobody read what OP wrote. Recommending oil for the fix? LOL

OP, the thunk is from the intermediate shaft still spinning when you're at a stop. When you put it in gear, it causes the shaft to immediately stop spinning, causing the noise. You can avoid the noise by holding your clutch in a little longer at a light.

Lol that makes a whole lot more sense! But it's absolutely normal on these cars??
Imma try that holding the clutch down longer.

Yeah. Even the manual might say something about it.

This is exactly it. Even my R/T challenger made the same noise when shifting into first after a stop. Not only a twins thing :P Nothing to worry about. Though, changing your transmission oil is still recommended and good to do in my book!
