MAP sensor issue

I just had my AVO turbo kit w/ full 3" TBE installed on my BRZ. I had flashed my car with a base map provided by AVO. I brought my car to Evasive Motorsports to get it tuned the other day, but a CEL came on. Evasive checked on it and it was a code for the MAP sensor. They tried for hours trying to diagnose and get rid of the CEL, but could not figure out what was going on. They had flashed an old AVO base map to start tuning, but they could not proceed until the code went away. They swapped out the 3-bar MAP sensor I had on from AVO with various aftermarket MAP sensors, but the code would not go away. When they put an OEM sensor on, the code was gone. They could not figure out why that was the case. Could it have been the map that was flashed onto the car causing the problem?

Do any of you have any idea what might be the issue?

Lot of question before we could even diagnose what was going on.

1. What was the EXACT check engine light code thrown? Name the description but the actual code number.
2. I assume this was an Omni, and we have seen these have problems. Has it been tested to see if it works on a bench?
3. If so, was the tune scaled properly for the sensor. Maybe it is actually an incorrect map sensor.

Just some quick thoughts that come to my head.

I don't have the exact code, but I'll ask the shop if they still have it.

Yes I think it is an Omni. It is a 3-bar MAP sensor that AVO sent to me, Evasive said it is an Omni so I assume it is. Evasive swapped it out and put in a couple of other aftermarket sensors and the code was still being thrown. One was a Hondata and the other was from their race car which were working fine on the cars they were taken from. I'm not sure what it means to have it tested on a bench, but I don't think it has.

They did not start the tune because they wanted to get rid of the code before they do anything. Evasive had just flashed a base map onto the car and were trying to diagnose the sensor issue, but could not proceed because the code would not go away.

What was weird was when I reflashed the ECU with the base map AVO gave me, the code went away again. I drove home and everything seemed fine, but my car died right when I came to a stop when I exited the freeway. I was able to start up fine and drive the rest of the way home, but I haven't driven it since. I'm taking my car back to the shop that installed my turbo kit and they're going to take a look over the install and run a boost test.

Hi,

Well I think I found the problem. P0171 is not a MAP sensor related issue.

http://engine-codes.com/p0171_subaru.html

If you are getting this code, something is wrong with one of the following.

1. Parts on the car and there might be a vacuum leak.
2. The tune might be off a little with the new map sensor.

Really hard to say though. I would check for leaks.

I'm taking it into the shop Saturday and they'll have a go through everything. There was a small turbo header gasket leak and I'm getting a new gasket for that. Hopefully that's the issue. Thanks for the help!
