I have seen these used before but mostly for actual race cars. There are Formula SAE teams that have started to use this system in the last few years and I've also seen it used in the professional racing series.

The only problem with these for our car would be setting up toe. To set up toe you require a second system that would run from the front of the car to the rear of the car (most people use string) and it must be perfectly parallel to the car. You can see in the bottom right corner of the picture that you need that to do toe measurements.



If our car had two tow hook points on the front like it does in the rear, it could be very simple. The way it is typically done is by have a rod run across the front and rear of the car with a small notch about 4 or 5 inches outside of the vehicle. These notches need to be perfect to ensure the string runs parallel to the car. You then place a string over each notch from front to rear and hang a weight from each end of the string to keep it taught. Then you can measure toe.

If you can create a system like that then these things are great. But personally, unless you want to change you alignment every weekend like a race team does, I don't see spending that kind of money to be worth it as you can typically get an alignment for less than $100.
