Muffler delete - stock heatshield?

After swapping the stock muffler out for a delete/track pipe, do people leave the stock heatshield that's bolted to the bottom of the trunk pan in place?

I installed my private label pipe and didn't notice the shield. Wonder if it blocks some noise as well as heat.

I used mine to divert air from getting under the rear bumper.

Holy wow how did you guys do that? Can you take pics of what you did with the mounting? That would save me $570 (I won't buy the diffuser if I can rig that up the same way).

Awesome!

Awesome!
First of all, this isnt comparable to 570 dollar diffuser.
Lets be clear about that!

When I removed the stock muffler, I didnt want the air to catch the bumper, so I simply pulled the rear of the heatshield level with the bottom of the bumper.
I got some pieces of metal strips thats used in car audio mounting and bolted it in place.
Its very simple.

Then I saw the way the heatshield was curved! i decided to flip it around left to right.
I liked that way better.

This shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as a diffuser.

It's just an air deflector.

But yea, after I looked at your picture, you can see yours if flipped around too.

Thanks all.

Understand it's not even close to the same thing as a diffuser but it will accomplish the same end that I personally want a diffuser for and that is cover up that gap. A real diffuser will have to wait until next year's tax return probably.

Finally did this tonight. I set mine up very slightly differently I think but I didn't want to remove any of the parts holding the bumper plastics together. Now that I see how this works I might get some sheetmetal and try to come up with something a little more form fitting.
