Rotting tires, yay or nay?
Sorry, that's rotating tires. Damned autocorrect.
![]() Unless I'm mistaken, newer tires have more grip. So won't rotating my tires (rears wear first) reduce my front end grip and thus cause my car to understeer more? Does anyone on here avoid rotating their tires because of this? I think it would be more fun to just wear out the rears, then move the fronts to back, and then buy two new tires for the front. Cheers. Last edited by ckim; 05-16-2014 at 01:30 PM. Reason: Typo. |

If all the tires are the same age, it's better to rotate them before the wear gets really bad if you want to extend their life. Every 7,000 miles or so is a good idea. Putting bald tires on the front is never a good idea, since a lot of the braking force is going to come from the front.

Since my camber varies greatly between front and rear, I do not rotate tires. But if you're daily driving, I would rotate.

What PERRIN_Chris said. The idea is to rotate before the wear starts to get uneven, which helps prevent the wear from becoming uneven and promotes a longer life.

If you've got a square setup, ROTATE. Even if front camber varies from front to rear, unless you've got significantly more wear at rotate time (means you should've rotated earlier) due to differences in contact patches, rotate. And if your front tires are more worn (by quite a bit) than your rear at 7k miles, then rotate when you change your oil at 3k.
