Oil Filter Wrench?
Hi guys.
I'm looking for a bit of adviceon what you are using as a wrench on our oil filters. I have the tried and truebelt style but have found not enough room to get the proper leverage with it andended up driving a screwdriver through the top of it to get it off. I've beentrying to find the cap style wrench but every where I have looked I found Ifelt like Goldilocks where they have been too big or too small and not justright. I think that would be my preferred style as I could use my socket wrenchhandle with it. I'm hoping to pick something up locally but any suggestionswould be welcome. Thanks |

Just a basic oil filter wrench is what I use, the filter that the car came with from Toyota was on extremely tight, slipped a few times. Wrapped a cloth around the filter and the wrench did its work

Mine broke. The factory filter felt like it was glued on.

Just go get a new one at the automotive shop. Try it again, make sure the filter is completely dry, no grease on the filter or you will keep slipping

I use K&N filters with the nut on the top. Solves that problem really easily.

This one from a local big box home improvement store:
https://www.channellock.com/209-Oil-...PVC-Plier.aspx Since I have a FilterMag installed, there is very little access. With this wrench, I can grab the oil filter from the top and unscrew it without any problems. You could go for a larger one for more versatility, but I have found that the smaller one works just fine for our filters and fits better in the tool box.

After the first oil filter change from factory, all future oil filters should be removable by hand. I only tighten them handtight + slightly more pressure. Lube the o-ring for easier removing in the future.
