BRZ price cut by 2500 pounds in UK

Autocar just reported this morning a nice 10% or so reduction in cost in the UK, with Subaru claiming it's due to the more favourable exchange rate with Japan, although Autocar thinks it might have more to do with the BRZ's slow sales relative to the GT86.

Chances we'll see a similar drop in NA: zilch. zero. never gonna happen.

There's already lots of different sources reporting this, which makes it pretty legitimate (at least relative to all the other rumor mill articles regarding these cars).

An alternative explanation I found here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=29887

"Subaru's reasoning behind the price cut is to put clear space between the BRZ and the new WRX STI, the cars now separated by £5,000 rather than £2,500. If it could just find a way to drop that WRX engine across..."

At any rates, congrats to the guys in the UK. Hopefully this will encourage anyone on the fence to take the plunge.

Never understood why it cost so much to begin with. Maybe I am crazy but, if the car costs 26.2k USD here and 26k Pounds there. The current exchange rate for Pounds to USD would make the car 47,000 USD.

I am sure there is someone much smarter than I that can explain it.

They did the same thing in Finland, BRZ was 50k€ (approx. $69k) in February and now it is 35k€ ($48,5k). Local dealer said that exchange rate helps but main reason was that Subaru wasn't happy about their sales numbers here and factory price is now much lower. So dealer can sell it for much less and still get some profit per car..

I'll be majorly pissed if it happened to me. How often do you see new car prices lower than what you paid for? A new and lower trim level/less optioned model perhaps. Usually it's the other way.
