Running different studs?
Has anyone tried very slightly larger base diameter studs? I know a few local Subaru guys switched to a different ARP stud because they're MUCH cheaper than the proper one.
GM one, fits into our hubs without much drama: http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...7702/overview/ Proper one: http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...7716/overview/ The GM one obviously needs a different set of lugs, but if you're buying open ended lugs anyway that's not really a deal breaker, and at 1/3rd of the price for the same quality it makes for an interesting decision.

They're both ARP studs, the only difference is the thread pitch and a very small difference in knurl diameter.
It's not like the ones for GM are magically weaker, and $150 vs $50 is a big difference if the end result is the same and they function the same. And like I said, I know a few local racers that do this with other brands as well. They fit 100% fine into the hubs and work great.

Another benefit of using Nismo if one chooses to go down that route, is that Nismo made both 50mm and 60mm studs. 60mm is comparable to ARP, 50mm may work with some spacer + closed ended lugs configurations. One is not limited to "Subaru WRX-only" stud configurations. -alex |
