Air conditioning squeak (and warranty coverage help)
Hey guys,
The blower motor in my AC is making a very noticeable (according to the dealership "barely noticeable" chirping noise at any fan speed, but it's worse at the lowest speed (which coincides with the quietest operation otherwise so it's INFURIATING.) The dealer says it's not covered because it "hasn't failed yet." $5 says they think it'll go long enough that it's no longer under warranty when it dies. How can I put pressure on them? It's under the Platinum extended warranty I got in return for my trouble with the CEL 1 day after I bought the car. The blower motor is expressly covered but they claim they can't replace it until it fails. I say that failing to operate within expected operating norms (EG no strange noises) IS a failure. Is there any way to "escalate" the issue? I can hardly drive without music playing it irritates me so much. ![]() Thanks Nathan |

Drill a small hole in the fan housing ..... then turn the blower in "hi" ... then stick a screwdriver in the hole ..... then take it back to the dealer .....
![]() OR, take that sucker apart and oil the fan motor..... ![]() humfrz |

Mine makes a chirping noise, too. I hear it when the audio is off, but haven't taken it to the dealer yet due to laziness.

Don't do this, because they will find that hole and say you tampered with it. Try taking to another dealer, Squeaking noise is a failure imho.

The blower fan on my '11 Taco was noisy. Dealer replaced it under warranty. (There was a TSB for this problem on the Taco)

There should be a phone number for Subaru customer service in your owner's manual. Call them and tell them the situation, see what they tell you.

I was in a Civic that did the same thing with the fans. Generally when this happens to a computer fan, that means the bearing is wearing down or that the tolerances aren't that tight aka a cheap bearing fan.
