I have a BRZ and the noise level is fine over smooth pavement. My only complaint is when driving over crappy MA roads after winter, it sounds like my dash is going to fall apart.

Mines got rattles too.. The cold weather just amplifies the rattles and harshness..

I feel like the car is already borderline heavy for what it is. I wouldn't want even more weight added to that.

I wish they insulated the WINDOW SWITCHES (not the entire door panel). The only rattle I have are those window switches. I probably have the other rattles but the ones that really bother me are those window switches.

Would never want more weight for extra quiet or comfort.

Would not be against less weight at the expense of some necessary things.

I think it's fine as it is. Weight is the enemy. It doesn't need more spam. They could shave even more off but there comes a point where it starts to lose appeal as a street car (for the masses). And for those who are really (I mean REALLY) dedicated track hounds, they'll probably strip out the sound deadening, door panels, rear seat, etc. anyway.

Funny thing about sound insulation in this car. There have been a few members that have added insulation all over the cabin of the car and unnecessarily put 70+lbs on the car. The car can be insulated to great effect for 35-45lbs. Remove the tools/spare from the trunk and you've equalized any weight added to the car but also improved the COG by spreading that weight across the lowest areas of the car.

A targeted installation like this will get you the most bang for you buck both in cost and weight. Don't take my word for it though. All these thoughts are the same as you'll find at http://sounddeadenershowdown.com where I learned many of them.

Some tips:

CLD Coverage (Fatmat, RAAMmat, Dynamat, etc):
Use Constrained Layer Damper (CLD) in tile format (cut small squares) to dampen vibrations. Do not apply it like wallpaper to coat full areas. This does not improve performance enough to justify the additional weight and cost. You may see photos of full coverage from the mfgs and incorrect installations. Perhaps mfgs post CLD with full coverage installation is to sell more their CLD. Knock on an area, listen for vibration, add a tile of CLD only if vibration is heard.

What to insulate with a barrier (typically MLV (got generic off eBay cheap):
MLV (Mass Loaded Vinyl) is HEAVY, use it only where max benefits are to be had. The floorboards, the transmission tunnel, the trunk. Doors optional. Anything above the shoulder line should probably not get MLV. Why? The windows will let in more noise above the shoulder than the MLV can block. Diminishing returns in addition to raising the COG of the car.

Use CCF generously (SecondSkin Overkill, 3m Thinsulate Acoustic, etc).
Close Cell Foam (CCF) weighs almost nothing and will take the edge off harsh noises where you didn't put the MLV (doors, rear quarter panels, A pillars, roof).

That's about it for now. If you DD your car (meaning it's not for trying to win head to head actual races) then there's no reason to have concern about adding 35-45 lbs of sprung weight to improve daily driving comfort. This weight can easily be offset in many ways. Checkout the "Official Component Weight" thread to see just how many.

Option C: make it a hundred pounds lighter, remove more of the sound deadening material. Its a sports car, it should be nimble first, comfort and nvh levels second.

Noise doesn't bother me I drive with the window down 90% of the time.

I'm of the opinion that the poll is flawed. 75 pounds is overkill. 20 pounds tops, strategically placed, would make a huge improvement. Rear wheelwells are the worst culprits as far as I can tell.
If you upgrade the stereo, all bets are off.
