Current system specs / costs?
Hi guys I just got a black 2014 BRZ and am shopping for an entire audio upgrade (subs, amp, speakers, maybe head unit) -- would love to hear about your system design:
1) Current setup / equipment 2) What range of music you listen to? Is there a particular setup well-suited for EDM? 3) How much did you budget? 4) Thoughts on rattling / Dynamat..is it necessary? THANKS!! |

I haven't done any audio setup yet (I plan on doing a nice one in the future, just $$$ right now). I do have the entire lineup of Dynamat that I'll be installing in the car; such as Dynamat Xtreme, Dynaliner (1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 inch), and Dynapad (for floor/trunk).
Since the BRZ is built more so for a sports car than a luxury car, there's not very much sound deadening/dampening anywhere in it. The roof has nothing but the headliner, and doors don't have anything but the door panel itself. I'd personally gut the entire car, do the xtreme on inner/outer door skins followed by 1/8 or 1/4 inch dynaliner on top of that. Do xtreme and 1/4" or 1/2" dynaliner on the roof. Xtreme and dynapad on the floor/transmission tunnel/rear seats/firewall (as best/much as you can reach). Xtreme and dynapad (or 1/2" dynaliner) on the trunk. Xtreme and dynaliner on the rear quarters (by the rear speakers). Xtreme and/or dynaliner on any removable plastic panel. It seems like overkill, and could be more than you or most want to do, but that's how I'll be doing my entire car. Luckily it's a thing you only have to do once, then you're golden. I plan on doing xtreme/dynaliner on my inner plastic fenders as well as you get a lot of noise from there both front and rear. Anything to hear less droning road noise and more of the music is what I'm all for. Surprisingly, my GTI had WAY more rattles/creaks/road noise than my BRZ does too, which I find kind of funny. |

1) Right now I only have an aftermarket head unit (JVC KW-AVX740). I've gathered all my gear for my setup, though: PHD 3-way comps, PHD 12" subs, Mosconi amps (100.4, 2x200.2) and processor (6to8). I'm having some custom A-pillars and door mounts built, which should be completed by this weekend.
2) I listen to most any type of music, but mainly rock. 3) Initially I was trying to keep it under $2K, but once I decided on the a Mosconi amps, my budget pretty much went out the window, lol! 4) IMHO sound deadener is a must. I plan to deaden and seal the doors, deaden the floor and trunk (with dampened, MLV and CCF). I know it adds some weight, but I have extra power to make up for it! |
