Lower the seats?
Hey everyone. First of all, just picked a 2013 ignition silver 6mt. Absolutely love the car, i just have one issue. I'm 6'7, and my right knee sits very close to the steering wheel. That's with the seat all the way back and down. Is there any aftermarket brackets that lower the seat? I saw that DA motorsports was making one, but that fell through. Maybe there's another possible solution? I appreciate the input guys.
Happy motoring. |

Nothing is out yet... There was a vendor that was working on it for a while but I don't think it ever came to market.

The FR-S can accommodate tall and semi-large people. I'm 6'1" 205lbs and its a great fit for me. Others have said the same. If I recall correctly we have a 6'4" dude on this forum who thinks the cockpit comfortable and thrilling at the same time.
But, 6'7" is a different and higher tier of of BIGNESS. The way I understood the OEM seating position is that at the lowest setting your dairy aire is 10 inches from the pavement. I'm sure custom seats are an option. I'm curious to learn what you modify. Update the thread when you make you modification. Jertronic. |

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. I would definitely go the aftermarket seat route, if it wasn't for my 5'2 wife who drives the car... She wouldn't be able to see over the dash. Is it possible to remove the knee bad? It's not head room I need, it's just an extra inch or so of knee room.

I am 6'2" and I need more headroom with a helmet, hopefully there's some lowered rails that come out in the future.

there was a vendor working on it, but they stopped posting in the thread. everyone assumed they flaked.
im 6'4"/6'5" and NEED helmet room. I have to do the gangsta lean to make it happen. BTW, you can strech the seat cushion spring and gain an extra half inch or so of headroom.

I'm about 6'3" with a long torso, I fit terribly in small cars. I made the leap into this one because the headroom was just bearable in stock form and at the time it looked like the damotorsports solution was on the horizon. They went radio silent on the product and I started on trying to find my own solution.
Springs stretched and the plastic ties that bind them cut did help, not enough to clear a helmet however. This is what I ended up doing, and it has been fantastic. Gf needs a booster seat to drive the car comfortably now (she's averageish height 5'7" or so). Shorter people that sit in the car can barely see over the wheel. The seat pan is basically sitting on the floor and thanks to the scooped design of the base just about all the headroom that can be gained is. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46801 Is your issue slouching for headroom that's causing knees into the wheel? |

Do you need the rear seat? Maybe you could do a rear seat delete and a longer seat bracket to slide back another 1/2-1" http://ft86speedfactory.com/seibon-c...panel-493.html You may not even need to change the seat slide, I don't know if that is the end of the slide or the seat cushion stops it first.
You might check out some of the forums for other small cars and see if there are any hints or tips. Miata, del sol, s2000... |

Legroom isn't normally much of an issue for me (other than in a solstice). Headroom is always the killer, but who knows maybe the altering of angles would help you out enough. Tilt wheel in this car isn't enough? |

![]() So this is my issue... My knee is just too Damn close to the steering wheel. This is with the seat all the way back, and lowered. Any suggestions? Last edited by csworldfan; 03-28-2014 at 02:12 AM. |
