Loud Rattle?

I'm getting a loud rattle when I turn my car on (sometimes, mainly only in the cold) and when I accelerate in first gear. No noise while revving, but once the clutch engages and the car starts moving I can clearly hear it, loud as day. Sounds like metal hitting metal. I can sometimes still hear it when shifting into second. Goes away after like 1,000rpms or so in both gears. Keep in mind this doesn't happen every time I accelerate in first, only most of the times.

My cars pretty low, and my skid plate tends to hit things every now and then, think it's loose? I tried shaking it to no avail. It's a pretty scary noise, I'll try to get a video tomorrow.

Any ideas? thanks.

hmmm......are you shifting into 2nd gear at 1,000 rpms .. ?? If so, your car is most likely just "shuddering".

As you mentioned (and from the picture), your car is really low ..... could be lots of things banging together.

nah, I'm not shifting that early, just accelerating through it. I shift around 2.5/3.

hmmm.......OK.

I would suggest you get your car up on a rack and take a close look see at what parts might be almost touching each other.

Have you done any exhaust mods? If so, I would look around there first.

Just a muffler delete. I'm gonna swing by Subaru today and get it checked.

Found the problem. Left a wrench in my engine bay and it fell into my drivetrain. No damage, but boy do I feel dumb, hahahahah.

Well, that was really dumb ......

I hope to hell you're not a surgeon .....

Reminds me of the time I was timing my MGB (the timing mark was on the underside of the crank pulley). I took her for a spin and noticed a noise coming from the engine compartment, so I drove it home ....... and ...... and ....discovered my timing light was still attached and was dragging on the ground.....
