Any Issues with Royal Purple?

Has anyone run into any issues with running Royal Purple in their BRZ/FRS? I've seen a lot of bashing their oil on the forums from people who used to use it, but nobody who's run it on this engine seems to be saying anything good or bad. I hate to make a decision based on old information from different engines.

I've been running RP 0w20 in my car for about a 1k miles. I've literally had zero issues with RP. If anything, my motor seems to be running smoother and quieter. I've also lost the crickets, although I can't be sure that it's the oil that's fixed that. So far, RP get's a thumbs up from me. Also, zero oil lost since the change.

I've used RP in my RX8 for 8+ years with no issues and I get better mileage than most RX owners. I've had good luck with Redline products as well. There are alot of good higher end synthetic oils out there (Amsoil, Redline, RP) but I use RP based on past history and as they are local (I've met the engineers at RP personally).

What can possibly go wrong by switching to a different motor oil on an new N/A motor?

There are countless threads stating that RP has had problems in any of Subaru's other/older boxer motors. Just that it didnt run right or whatever. At the same time, those are based on different motors, so I was hoping for (and got) some feedback on our motor. I appreciate everyone's inputs by the way.

It's debatable. I used to be on the royal purple sucks bandwagon... I dont think its terrible anymore, probably better than most oils.

BUT its still a semi overratted oil for the price if you look at bobistheoilguy.com. There are better oils to use out there if you are looking to put the most high tech oil into your car.

For an NA engine, if you arent tracking it, I dont think its a big deal which ever way you go.

I get a discount on base (and no tax is a plus as well), so I wanted to be sure that nobody has had problems. I dont think I'm going to be doing tons of racing quite yet (though I am trying to do more and more as the opportunities present themselves nearby). So i figure it will probably do the trick without paying the $80-90+ for motul.

Also subaru boxer issues with it arent nearly as bad as Mobil 1. I had a friend run royal purple for years on his STI with no issues.

It should be fine... hell I have Valvoline in my BRZ right now and will probably switch to the Subaru synthetic next oil change just to save money. I am fairly anal about my car too.

just watch consumption...

I've used RP on my past cars with no issue. I a bunch of different weights depending on season etc on my skyline, same with gto. I also used it and a variety of other oils in my yaris with no issue. No issues switching to different oil types (lolyaris, so whatever oil was on sale :P). My experience with boxer engines is limited, so i can't speak to that- but my engines all held up with solid compression, very minimal wear, and ran well the entire time i was using RP over hundreds of thousands of cumulative KM.

Although with my FRS im using Subaru OEM Filters, and Subaru/Idemitsu 0w-20. Got a dozen filters for $7 each, and the subaru oil was 5.99 here, which is a lot cheaper then anything else i can find locally. Any of the approved oils should be fairly similar, its more important to be changing it regularly IMO.

This is on a tangent, but my crickets came back. I was in bumper to bumper traffic for over an hour. I'm starting to believe that the crickets have something to do with excess heat as I always seem to get it after a long drive in bumper to bumper traffic. Anyone else notice this too?

RP did a good job of getting rid of the crickets there for a good while.
