Took car out of the dealership, what are the recommended steps? wax , seal, etc.
Hi guys I just took my new Toyo 86 FT out of the dealer argento ironically i'm in argentina. ( argento hhah). I would like to know what are the best steps to either seal the paint of my car. I think the guys already waxed it or something, not quite sure. What are the products I should buy. with my previous car I washed it with neutral soap ,and then waxed it with a normal carnauba wax from my country. that's all.
I've heard brands like meguiars, sonax, but I don't know what's the main ingredients which vary throughout those brands. or if it's pure bluff. |

New car prep typically involves a wash (something like Dawn to remove old wax/sealants), a claybar, a light correction with a fine polish and ultimately a wax or sealant application.
Some will opt for something like opticoat at this stage as well for extra protection but I'm not sure what's available in argentina. Sonax perfect finish 4/6 and sonax polymer net shield seems to be pretty amazing stuff. |

Thanks mike what's like Dawn to remove old wax ? , claybar that's something I never quite understood it's that harsh for the paint of the car? . I need some stuff I could buy over in the US cause a friends wife is coming over and I can ask her to bring me some stuff from the us. I was thinking on asking her Meguiars wax only that. I was going to wash my car and then apply meguiars wax .
Can you guide me a bit more. I want something I can apply with my hands and no machine. Do I need an applicator for the wax and then for giving shine I need some microfiber?. Which would be the simple steps can you give me some links on amazon going from washing , applying wax, and sealing. Sonax or meguiar. |

Dawn = dish soap.
Here is a good flow chart that gives you an idea of what you're going to need. Assuming the dealership didn't completely trash your paint, you're going with "good condition" paint.

Great thanks so far no scracthes or swirls . The onyl thing I'm concerned about is about the sealant thing .. I've heard ppl over here talk about acrylic sealant is that true ?. I'm going to make a good wash with dish wash ? or PH neutral dish?.
About sealant can you explain me a little bit about that, I don't know if my dealer sealed it I'm almost sure they didn't . How do I seal the paint , I have to remove all wax entirely and then I just apply sealant paste like wax? when I finished sealing I wax on top ? can that be done be hand ? Again I was thinking on getting this wax [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Car-Cleaner-Wax-oz/dp/B0009IQX0E/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1393396291&sr=8-5&keywords=meguiars+wax"]Meguiar's Car Cleaner Wax. 11 oz. : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame] is it worth ? or should I only use a premium carnauba wax ? take into accoiunt the car is new. and that meguiars says it polishes as well . |

The reason for dish soap is to remove the old wax so that you're applying wax to a fresh surface. Normally, you would just use concentrated car soap.
Sealants work just like waxes - they typically last longer though. If you want to use both, make sure you apply sealant first for protection, then wax afterwards for shine. All of this can be done by hand but will obviously take longer and be more labor intensive than using a machine. I used Meg's cleaner wax on my previous car once. It isn't blow you away amazing but it works pretty well. I might try out Adam's machine super sealant next: http://www.detailersdomain.com/Adams...wax_p_118.html Either that or Sonax Polymer netshield: http://www.detailersdomain.com/SONAX...ld-_p_814.html The Sonax stuff is a little pricy but it seems like amazing product. |

Hi thanks again, I was thinking on meguiars wax for giving shine. But I checked Sonax as paint sealant. And says this
Helpful Tip: Do not top with wax, it will decrease the durability. So I don't get it, I was thinking on washing the car, applying the paint sealant and then applying wax. But I think it's not working this way. or am I missing something. |

The general rule of thumb is wax after sealant, if you really want to wax. You do not necessarily HAVE to apply wax after sealant.
In the case of Sonax polymer net shield, it's specifically telling you not to do it. There are exceptions to every rule. Find out what works best for you. |
