Flooded passenger footwell

The other day I noticed a moldy water smell and and that the passenger carpet was wet. Dried it up a bit and sprayed some febreze and the smell went away. Didn't really get a chance to look at it until today and found that the floorboard was drenched! From the front to back of the floorboard there was water everywhere - the sponge padding underneath held much of it. I removed the chair, soaked most of it up and let it dry for a couple hours with two blow dryers.

At first I thought it was due to a leak in the window seals. This didn't seem to be the case though since the water seemed to come from underneath the carpet and it wasn't wet on top. I also took my car to a touchless car wash last week after heavy rain. I sprayed a hose at the door and seals and no leaks were found.

Then I thought, maybe it might be coming from underneath the car since the touchless wash sprays the undercarriage and for the first time last week I drove slowly over the spray. This would be kinda wierd though since there was a lot of water and there'd have to be a big opening for the water to enter the cabin. Also it was only on the passenger side.

After doing some research online I discovered that there was an AC evaporation hose in the passenger footwell that could dump water when pinched or clogged?? This seems like it might be the issue and I'm not sure what the cause may be. I did see a hose underneath the carpet.

Has anyone else experienced this, know what to check or what the fix might be? Will probably take it to the dealership soon but this is pretty bad, there was a ton of water!

Haven't had a single problem with the car not even crickets after 30k miles lol.

One question I would ask is, is it really humid in your part of California. If so then I could see where a plugged/pinched AC drain line could pool up a lot of water in the car, the refrigeration process can remove massive amounts of water from the air. I would say take it to the dealer. Tell them you smell mold and you don't think it is healthy, which it might not be. Have them check the AC drain lines while they replace the carpet.

Lol this exact problem annoyed me for a while. If you park under trees the leaves and sap will actually clog the drain and the water will build up instead of evaporating and eventually spill over. It's a simple fix where you just run pressurized air through the hose the unclog it. Any dealership can also clear it for you, they might charge you for this tho. Mine never did and it's simple to do it yourself.

With me I could hear the water pouring into my cabin when I took turns, after you unclog it remove your mats so it can dry nicely or it will stink for a while.

Pop the hood and locate the drain line which should be a small black plastic tube passenger side. If you go to a gas station with the quarter vac and air just use that air to flush the tube of the built up gunk

Thanks guys for all the help. I'm having trouble locating the ac drain line under the hood. Is there a photo somewhere? Is that what the hose is underneath the carpet?

It's kinda wierd that water could get into the cabin like this apparently this can happen to other cars as well.

Is anyone able to verify that the hose underneath the passenger side footwell is the ac drain line?? It was underneath the carpet. I figured the drain line would be in the engine bay but couldn't find it.

I think that's the sound tube.

That's the line. The AC system is mostly inside the cabin, not the engine compartment. There should be a grommet that the tube passes through.

Yes I did.

I am not asking how others fixed it. I am asking the OP how/if he was successful in fixing his own car. There is a difference.

Did you try the methods offered by others? For 75 cents worth of compressed air time at the gas station it wouldn't hurt to try. There is a difference but what difference does it make if they have the same problem?

EDIT: Just saw the kinked line thread. Weird, I wonder if this indeed is a line defect. Troubling since I park under a tree most every day at work. Let us know how taking the air compressor to it works out?

Good luck man, if you haven't yet take a look at this thread. More evidence pointing to the AC drain hose being the culprit.
