Pioneer Appradio 3

I was wondering if this is a good stereo and also if anyone has installed this system in their vehicle. I want to know about how the installation is and if I need any extra wiring or anything.

Thanks!

Love the app radio. Wanted it so bad in my lancer GT but never got around to doing it. Would be interested to see it in a BRZ/FRS

I have the app radio 2. It's not that good. It has no features besides bad navi from your phone and ipod hook up. Everything is kind of laggy too. Maybe the AR3 is faster though.

I would buy a used screen for the same price or shell out the extra cash for a better one.

I guess for the money it's okay though

I've had the AppRadio3 in my car for +/- 4 months and it's been pretty good thus far.

Sorry for the poor quality, I just took these on my phone. If you want a picture from a specific angle let me know and I'll do my best.

Pioneer Appradio 3

I got it from Crutchfield with an extra harness to splice into (free w/ purchase of radio). So it wasn't completely plug and play, but I didn't have to alter any factory wiring. The extra harness that it came with plugs into the factory harness. It's a straightforward install, the wires are all labeled well and make it fairly easy. I could have spliced into my stock microphone but opted not to. Instead, I'm using the microphone that came with the AppRadio and just routed it to the factory location.

It's okay. Great android interface (seriously, it's really good), but SQ output is "okay" at best. Those 2V preouts don't do it any favors, really.

I'd wait and save up your $$ for Pioneer's good-interface, good-SQ android interfacing NEX units due out this month. They're definitely more expensive than the DA210, but they're worth it.

I ran an AppRadio 2 (same hardware as the AppRadio 3, just without BT Audio and disc drive or mirrorlink compatibility, just HDMI only, which is actually much better than mirrorlink) in my STI. It wasn't bad, really. Fairly clean sound through them, a JL 10" and 4 Alpine Type-R components with Pioneer champion series amps, but nothing special either. I'd say that setup is probably around or on par with the OEM Audio+ quality for about the same overall pricing.

If you're looking for improved android interfacing and only a minor bump in sound quality and want preouts for all speakers (front, rear, and subwoofer), then the AppRadio 3 actually may fit the bill.

If you want to significantly improve the sound (especially if you have an FRS stock head unit), then go with something better. Now, if you have a BRZ HU, the AppRadio 3 is going to be a significant (not just minor) improvement in sound quality AND interface.

How would it compare if upgrading from bespoke 2014 stereo? Same install?

No clue. I had the worst of the lot: the BRZ navi unit.

It'll do better than the BRZ head unit, that's for sure. Just don't let the AR3 do any eq. It only has a 5-band. Let your Android phone do the eq through some high quality audio app such as power amp or player pro, and leave the AR3 eq set to flat.

On phone I am. Therefore, if mistakes I make, Frank Oz blame you should.

Just purchased mine from Crutchfield, waiting for it to get here (shipped today) I got the AppRadio 3 SPH-DA110 for 329.99. It is the non cd/DVD version. It comes with the antenna adapter, wire harness for splicing, instructions for removing HU all speakers and hot to splice, and the 2 piece kit to make it fit in the 200m. With free shipping.
