Sharing 17x9 Track Wheels & 255 Tires with a 5x114 Car
It's been documented ad naseum how 5x100 sucks. While searching, I've seen mentions from people/shops on this forum about using the same wheels for S2000 and FR-S but none of the posts give all the details about how they are getting it done.
I currently have a set of Rota Grids 17x9 +42 5x114 mounted on the s2000 and that's probably the lowest offset I'd want to run on this car. I switched away from RPF1s in order to clear a StopTech 328 BBK. I've theorized about using the Project Kics 11mm adapter to put the Grids on the FR-S (making it +31) however I think this probably might make the 255/40 tire rub on the outer fender wall under hard cornering? FR-S will be lowered 1" on Eibach Pro-kit and I have a set of crash bolts (both collecting dust in my garage right now). A hub conversion on the FR-S is unlikely at this point. Ideally, a dual drilled wheel with a +42 to +45 offset and spokes designed to clear my s2k bbk would be ideal for me but the only ones i'm familiar with are the Rota DPT and the Mach V. Mach V is out of the question for the S2000 because the hub bore is too small. As far as the Rotas, frankly, I just have less confidence in the thinner spokes of Rota DPT than I do the Grids. So, I imagine the pool of drivers with this problem is somewhat small, but has anyone come up with a good solution for this? |

I say unlikely because I view it as the absolute last resort and most PITA to execute. I'll searched it a lil bit and saw that Megan had a pricey kit that they've since pulled from the market... and Greddy never brought their's to market.
Probably some other options out there I suppose... i view it as a last resort tho. I'd need to see evidence that those kits are long term durable for tracked cars. |

I believe the hub swap is unnecessary because unless you're pushing something ridiculous in the power department, you won't brake the hub. The axles, diff, or trans will go first. And if you are in the power department, you already should have that covered. I seriously considered swapping it over, but I came to the conclusion that there's no point.
Not a useful mod, IMO. |

Why not do the Mach V and just get the hub bored out? Shouldnt take much $$$

The S2000 has a pretty large center bore at like 70mm, the Mach V is 56.1mm to match Subaru's center bore. That's like half an inch to be machined off, I don't know if there is even that much room since the dual drilling takes up space.
The DPT is really the only option I could come up with since it has a 73mm center bore. |

I'm pretty much on the verge of doing that. The only thing I don't like is that I wanted to only have to keep 1 set of track tires for both cars. Or maybe have a set of 200tw Street tires and a set of R-comps I could rotate between each.

If you do enough events you'll use up the tires and be buying more soon anyway. If you're gonna get cheap rotas for the FR-S get the Titan. Comes in the same 17x9 et42 as the grids but is 3lbs lighter each.
