Opti-coat Review- Sunset Detailing

First, I just want to say that this car is awesome!!! So much fun and better than the 2005 Honda Accord that I used to drive. When I went to the dealership, I saw how dirty the car was. So I say why not to have them wash my car. (BIG MISTAKE!!!) After I inspected the car in my garage, I found out that my car was plagued with swirls and scratch marks. Then I heard from my friends about opti-coat and paint correction. I searched through the web and finally found some members here who really like the service from Sunset Detailing. So I decided to give it a try. As you can see from my pictures, my car was very dirty because I didn't want to touch the paint and ruin it further.I called James from Sunset Detailing to wash my car, do paint correction, and apply opti-coat on it. James is very informative and knows what he was doing. First, he used optimum no rinse to wash the car. It was a very quick and easy. When he was washing the car, he showed me how simple it was and how much less water it used. Next, he used D/A Random Orbital Polisher to remove swirls and scratches. He told me that since my car is black, it is impossible to have zero micro scratches and swirl marks on it. The best he could do was remove 88% to 90% of the marks. After he finished polishing, I could hardly find any micro scratches. There are a few that I can see it from certain angle. He, then, spray alcohol to the car to remove any other contamination before he applied the opti-coat. Lastly, it was simple and quick to put on the opti-coat. The whole process took him around 5 to 6 hours. And, it needs another 6 hours for the opti-coat to set. Now my car is like a mirror. The black color has more depth to it. Overall, I am very happy with his service. I would recommend him to do the opti-coat if you live in SoCal. He would drive to your garage so you don't need to go out. He is very friendly, if you have any questions you can ask him.
PS: I do not work for him. I just want to share my experience. Trust me, it is really worth it to have your car look like new and protect your paint at the same time.

I've always had black cars but ended up going with satin white just because black is such a PITA to keep clean. My neighbor actually just bought a black FR-S and it looks amazing the day he washes it, but then the next day it's all dirty again.

If you can keep that mirror look...then I'm very jealous! Your car looks great!!

James is the man!! He paint corrected and opticoated my Whiteout and I couldn't be happier with the experience and the results. Highly recommend Sunset. When you call James let him know you're on the ft86club forums!

you can call him to find out. If you mention that you are a ft86club member, it will be cheaper than the price that shows on his website

Thx. After you apply the opti-coat, the paint surface is kinda of slippery. So it is harder for the car the get dirty

I'm going to chime in as well.
I had my opti-coated by James a month after purchase.
He did a superb job, and 10 months later, it still work as well as the firs tday it was coat.
Some love marks has occured due to bi-weekly washing, but the car still looks shiny and bright as of now.

THough I probably need to clay the car soon.... I can feel there are some containment on the car already....
