For this upcoming season, I've been considering purchasing a tire trailer and completely dedicating my separate wheels/tires to off-road use only. Did anyone use a smaller trailer to tow their tools and wheels/tires last season (or plan on doing it for this upcoming season)? I don't know the first thing about hooking up a trailer to this car - any suggestions? Can the FRS/BRZ rear bumper support a tow hook/hitch and trailer? What's the best way to hook up the electrical harnesses?
Thanks! |

What? You don't want to cram them all into the car? All that wasted space!

You actually CAN fit all 4 tires/wheels inside the car if you wanted to.

You can and I have but a trailer is so much easier. I've built several tire trailers and I am building another this year. It's easy to start with a harbor freight frame an build it up yourself. You can make a deck out if diamond plate or wood and then configure to your liking and tire sizes. The one I'm doing now is pretty basic with two posts with lockable tops to stack tires 2 high and lock them in place. Then a lockable tool box on the front for gear storage. |

Finished up my trailer this weekend.
Started with a HF frame ![]() 3/4" plywood deck ![]() Lockable tool chest ![]() Assembled and used galvanized pipe to build the poles for holding the tires. Put a screw on T-joint at the top that I run a bike lock through to discourage people from running off with the tires easily. ![]() I had a friend weld up a custom hitch, bolts into the tow hook receivers. ![]() Loaded up and ready to go

Use kasks' hitch, its the shit!
It is bolted directly to the rear bumper, and it does not mess with ground clearance, and you do not have to change the towhook sheering off. Last edited by t.chk; 03-12-2014 at 11:47 PM. Reason: more info |

I want this so bad. Anyone know if this is legal in CA? If not what would make it so? Thanks! Quote:

I have nothing against the other hitches, I just like this design because I can take it off at the track and save the weight...and it was only like $100 in materials.
Only issue we ran into with this one is that you need really tight tolerances to get the right fit and when we tried it on other BRZ/FRS it wouldn't fit because they were each all slightly off (1-2mm) so it is not one size fits all. So while it would probably fit most other cars, it won't fit all other cars. |

Your trailer looks a lot like the one I have. I believe you have 8" rims though. Very interested in the Hitch/Tow Bar and can make my own. Would your friend care to share the information about his design? Very ingenious, wishing that I had thought of it.
Is that the Stig on the wall? Outstanding.Quote:

I can talk to him and see. It would be tough to make one for someone else without being able to get exact measurements and do test fits on the exact car before welding, because it is weird, but every single car we looked at was just slightly different.

I would be interested in a hitch reviver like that as well for exactly the same thing you're doing.
