Hard lurch, don't know what it was

My car is basically all stock. Was driving in traffic today. Stop and go kind of stuff. One time I start going from a stop in first. Right about when I let out the clutch, can't remember exactly when, there was a sudden lurch. First I thought I had hit a rock or some obstacle under my car which caused resistance. But there was nothing there.

It also felt like a sudden fuel cut off. But then right after everything got back to normal. It's not like I let the clutch out super fast or anything, just a normal start from zero.

IDK if it was just an "occasional thing" these engines do, or if it's a sign of some underlying issue that could get worse?

Any ideas or similar experiences?

Did you perhaps spin a wheel with TC on? Was there a nasty lump in the road that might have triggered the anti-hop function?

well I guess that's possible. I don't exactly remember any bump or hole in the road. it seemed smooth to me. The lurch/cutoff was so sudden and harsh, I was shocked. But ive never heard of the anti hop function...

I had a similar experience it's happened recently probably like 3 times randomly. I didn't think anything of at first but the fact that it happened more than twice has me cautious... no cel and none of the driver assist were off either...

I've had something like that happen when the car is cold and I start off from a stop and I'm turning right.

I reckon it's just a quirk......

Mine does it once in a while as well. Feels kinda like how the car jumps off the throttle really quickly when you crest a hill in cruise control but much harder.

Yeah at first i didn't think much of it but 2 times in particular its been cold start but for the most part it has been while the car was warmed up... curious what the issue may be...

My brz does it too sometimes. I think its just a quirk of the tc system when starting off if there are bumps or sand the tires want to chirp easily

This used to happen to me before I figured out that my DW Fuel Pump was installed incorrectly. Whole thread about it Could also be TC acting up like they said but if it's the pump, it's completely random and can force a fuel cut in any driving situation.

My two thoughts were:
1 - Were you runnning low on fuel? turning with nearly empty fuel can cause air to enter the FI system.

2 - A patch of ice (then I noticed "Miami").
My experince living in Fl from CO: If it gets below 55deg in Fl. the locals don artic parkas while the CO natives walk around in shorts...

Neither of those have been the case for me as my car rarely sits below 3/4s empty... driving conditions are always good when it happens...

this soudns like the TC / VCS to me as the standard setting is very agressive - feel like someone has turned the engien off briefly

switch in to 'sport' and it should stop doing it
