CLOSE THREAD
Hello all. Just got a muffler delete done. It is dual exit. Everything is stock on car including stock tips. Had a Y pipe done and just had the tips extended out a few inches from stock.
Cold start-sounds deep and rumbly a little rasp, but it settles down in less than a min. Low rpm (up to 3k)-sounds deep and rumbly considering its a 4 cylinder. High rpm(3k+)/gunning it- where should i begin....sounds like bees in a tin can + a tracktor + a kid blowing one of those party straws + a high pitched dirtbike...it can go on.... So my question is...how do i reduce this unbearable raspiness. Im beginning to regret ever touching the exhaust. I dont even gun it to past cars anymore since it sounds like a rice rocket. I even shift early to avoid hitting 3k rpm lollll. Thanks in advance! Ill try to post pics and a vid sometime soon. Last edited by Dvulo7; 01-04-2014 at 10:51 PM. |

Sounds like you have dual exits? I have a single exit muffler delete and think it sounds great.

Very odd, as I've never heard a muffler delete that rasps. I have the berk and there's no rasp...

What I think you may have done and correct me if im wrong is delete both the muffler and the rear resonator. I too did the same thing to see how it would sound and it lasted a few days before I put a resonator back into the system.

I specifically asked for the resonators not to be removed, but ill take a look to see if they removed it or not. I know that removing them would increase the raspiness.

I have a Berk Dual exit delete, no rasp with no resonator. Not sure how much different my setup is to yours. I've heard adding the resonator will help. Also my exit delete, along with the drone I got toned down quite a bit after 500 or so miles.

It might sound raspy from in the cabin more so then from behind the car.
How are you guys finding the volume? Louder then most cat-backs? Or reasonable daily driver volume? |

I have a feeling it might be the exit size. I left the stock tips. What if i change it to dual 4" exits like the berk one?

put up a video and see if we agree with your assessment.
i've had my local welder experiment with all sorts of different types and sizes and it seems singles are always a lot quieter than duals. It's the resonance coming off of the empty well left where the muffler used to be - try to keep it single if you can. not knowing what sort of y pipe is used in your case sort of difficult to comment.. my single exit muffler delete utilizes the stock 58mm (i think it was?) piping and uses a JDM tip and we have made it come out about an inch more out the diffuser - this has removed a lot of the in-cabin booming. note there should not really be any drone unless you remove the resonator. fyi i am pretty sure i am not making any more power than stock - just louder. |

Maybe try quickly removing everything from the mid pipe back and testing the sound quality with no tips. It could give you an idea of where the unwanted noise is coming from. If it still sounds like crap to you, then you probably need a muffler to be happy.
** obviously dont go driving around like this. |
