overpipe clearance

just a quick question to those of you who have an aftermarket overpipe that doesn't rattle. how much clearance do you have between the overpipe and the other hard parts down there? i have about an index finger-width, is this sufficient? i ask because i have some rattling going on and i'm not sure if the overpipe is the culprit. i don't see any outward signs of contact. thanks!

I think you should be fine... I have about as much clearance as well, with both an aftermarket over and front pipe.

well damn, that must not be it then. maybe the clutch? it seems like the rattle goes away when i push the clutch in. anyone with an act clutch experience rattles around 3k rpm with the clutch out (moving or otherwise)?

I have an ACT clutch w/streetlite Flywheel and it rattles at idle with the clutch out (this is normal for a lightweight flywheel). I don't really notice it when moving though.

If you are worried about the overpipe clearance check for rubbing on the subframe and or swaybar.

my rattle seems to be the worst when decelerating with the clutch out in low gears. as it passes through the 3k rpm area i get what sounds a lot like the clutch noise you describe at idle (that i also get). i didn't think the clutch would do it when it's loaded up and engaged, but maybe it does? not sure, but it's annoying as hell.

Yup, I get that decel noise too...Yes it is annoying at first, but I have just gotten use to it. King Tut said it best "having to pay to play"

Get an excedy or such, unless you need the big torque handling clutch..?

I have a slight rattle when taking off with my Perrin. When I had the dc sports, the rattle was unbearable.
The gap between the pipe and the frame was extremely small like less then a cm on both pipes. Not sure why the dc rattled so badly.
Can someone explain why the heck are the pipes shaped so close to the frame when there is plenty of room in the area above where the pipes are routed.
Could avoid the rattle in all cases by just bending the pipe a bit higher then usual.

yeah my car has a turbo, and will be on e85 pretty soon. i bought the 'softest' clutch i could reasonably get away with (act full face).

do the clutchmasters make the same noise? maybe that's where that $400 price difference went to lol.

Different brands are made differently. Perrin has noted on a few folks to have a different bend causing it to be closer, then as you state a rattle. The Avo OP I bought was pricey, but I also knew 100% there would be clearance due to their R&D on the piece, I didn't want to be irritated so I paid the piper..?

Yeah you are paying to play then for sure. I can't comment on clutchmasters, I'll leave that to folks that have tried them. I'm still sadly just a NA dude wishing for FI lol.

I can't even fit my pinky finger in between my overpipe & the metal part of the car underneath it.
