Pipe Bomb
I have seen some old threads on here discussing the use of a pipe bomb for the TPMS in our car and people said that it wouldn't work since the sensors need to spin to "wake." One such thread is Here. With the cold weather, I have decided that I need winter tires very soon and my ultimate plan is to have a winter and a summer set. Since our cars can't handle 2 sets of TMPS sensors, I would rather run the pipe bomb.
This is what I am really getting at. Has anyone actually made a pipe bomb to use with a BRZ or FR-S? I have heard from some on here that the light goes off for 20 miles after parking next to their stock tires with the TPMS in it. |

This is exactly what I thought. It looks like I'll be throwing together a pipe bomb and requesting the TPMS sensors out of the rims when I get the tires.

I made one of these for a buddy when he got new wheels for his IS350. He broke one trying to get it off the old wheels so he purchased a new one to put in the pipe bomb.
We took all that time to make it and in the end he didn't realize that the had to get the new one programmed for his car. Had to cut the sucker open and then he just said screw it and bought a new set of sensors for the new wheels. Some people...

You can download tech stream for free and program the new sensors yourself

IIRC, this was discussed last year and the TPMS sensors that are used on our cars require motion as well. So the "pipe" trick won't work.

When parked near them my dash light is out. When I drive away from them, a few minutes of distance and poof ! - tha dash light comes on until I return to be close to the sensors. Methinx anyone with a non working pipe bomb has to put at least 35 lbs psi. in it. But why bother with that ? - its only a light that stops flashing after you start up. |

If you want to test the pipe fix and report back, that's great. But I didn't think it was worth the cost to remove them and then reinstall them in the future just for a stupid light. |

You could just throw your tires w/ the tpms sensors installed in the... trunk thing... Should sort that issue out.

A tiny square of electrical tape on instrument panel does the trick.
