Engine high pitch sound
I have a 2013 fr-s manual transmission . Got 34 miles on it . My question is - is it normal to hear a some high pitch sound from the engine during idle? It sounded like garden bugs or crickets make but I made sure there was no background noises interfearing with the engine sound. I found out about this after returning home from a 12 mile ride

Ok maybe that was a bit too upfront. That high pitched sound you hear is what we the "crickets". How loud they are and under what conditions they occur depends on the car and the local quality/blend of gas. The HPFP is the source. Very few of us do not have the crickets. With that said, damn near all of us do, whether we have had the fuel pump changed or not. Some people say there's have gone away. others say they have returned. Toyota/Subaru aren't interested in fixing the issue which is why your 2014 model has it too.

It's sad that you guys in the US battle with crickets, and it must somewhat degrade the 86 experience. It's unheard of here in South Africa. I don't think that we have better gas, just no ethanol (as far as I know), so no crickets...

I switched to a 90 octane sans ethanol to silence my crickets. Even with a noisy fuel pump I wouldn't trade my car for anything. This is the first inexpensive fun car to come out in a while. I'll be old and grey by the time China builds a high quality Lotus Evora clone that makes 400hp and runs on seawater. :-)

Never heard of people around here having this problem. We have 98 RON fuel though, which is equivalent to 93 octane I believe.
