high revving NA engine
Toyota and subaru have been touting the fa20 as a high revving engine but to me 7400 rpm red line just isn't realy that high to me. My cobalt ss with a gm stage kit had a 7k red line. How stable is this engine with a higher redline. I think ive seen some people here with 7.9k redline.

You are correct. 7.4K RPM is far from "high revving". My engine stock hits 8.5K RPM without even trying and I wouldn't consider that high revving either. My engine that hit 10k RPM.. now that.. that was a screamer!

I wouldnt really say its high revving, but it is higher than most cars on the road, Other than rotarys, cars that cost much much more, and bikes.

7400rpms is nothing special. In fact, in the 4 cylinder sports car world I consider it delightfully average. But then again I've owned several Honda's so I'm spoiled when it comes to RPM's.

7800 was a no brainer for 4B11t's.
This motor can rev, but some of the ecu tables will need to be re-scaled and it will need either cams or FI to make it worth reving deep.

With Ecutek tune the redline is set to 8 000 RPM. At this level for a car we can say it is a high revolution.
Except for the RX-8 and the S2000 most of the high rev cars goes to 8 000 - 8500RPM.

1 "High" is a subjective term. It does not mean anything concrete per se. 2 The term has been used by marketing people to promote their engine. It might only have revved to 2500rpm and they would still call it high. |

My second car was a 1981 Mustang GL with the base-model 2.3 Liter 4-cylinder. After I bought a new (351C) engine for it I thought that I would see how high that motor could rev.
It made it to somewhere near 7k before it threw a rod through the oil pan. I suppose our engines are high-revving when compared to those. Scott |

To certain extend, love to have higher RPM... reality in DD, no thanks. This car is low HP as is, I don't want gutless car that need to rev over 10k RPM to pass a smart4two
