I've felt bad for the past 3 weeks.... Ever since I picked up my FR-S in August, I've completely neglected my bike. It just sits there and I start it up and take around the block once a week to make sure everything is good on it. I used to ride that thing every chance I got. It was a my go to machine for having fun and looking good while doing it. Now that I have the FR-S all I want to do is drive it everywhere because it's so nice.
My last car was a Cruze and although it was nice, economical, and not the worst car in the world, it was more of a practical choice then a heartfelt one. When I bought the FR-S a new sense of excitement came into me that I had not felt before when I had driven other cars. The FR-S, for me, is the pinnacle of being young, independent, and most of all free. It's MY car; I paid for it, I work hard for it, and I can enjoy it when I want. I never felt this was about the Cruze, it never invoked the passion that the FR-S does.
Now my bike, a 2003 Z1000, just sits lonely, by itself under a cover waiting to be ridden as I most always did whenever the sun was out. Do I sell it and use the money towards the loan? The bike and insurance are paid for already. It runs like a top and needs no work. Maybe the "new baby" phase will wear off and I'll one day get the passion back for riding that has been distanced to the far reaches of my mind.
I see my bike and one thing comes to mind: Abondoned

it doesn't ware off. If anything you end up wanting to spend more money on the car to make it more fun. I thought it was a new car high but it's been a year and I'm still feeling it.

Ya - I have several friends that have gone through the same challenge.

What to do??

I do know this, everyone one of my friends that got rid of their bikes, missed them immediately.

The freedom and peace on the road is not something easily replaced with a nice car.

Same dillema.

Have a duc monster and modded forester. That worked well, both vehicles gave enough contrast in purpose that they shared time.

Then got the frz. More fun and significantly better mpg than the forester, more usable than the bike.

The other two now sit neglected most of the time.



On my end the bike was gotten cheap enough and is low mile/clean enough that i'm not too worried about depreciation. So it doesn't feel like a black hole of money sitting undriven.

I totally understand where you're coming from. Four years ago I had my first road accident on a motorcycle and it was enough to make me give up riding after more than 60 years. Even though I enjoyed my Miata at the time it wasn't till I got my FR-S a year ago that I was able to find a good substitute for the pleasure I got out of riding. The FR-S, for what it is, is an incredible car to drive. Plus the weather elements no longer are a concern being tucked into a neat little coupe. Sell the bike and if down the road you decide you can't live without one, buy another. So many cars/bikes, so little time.

Haha, same here except mid-July on the FR-S purchase. My Versys has just been sitting there, though it's been doing a lot more of that since my wreck at the end of April than it did before that (the FR-S purchase just took that to a whole other level). Similar initial car purchase as you too (2012 Focus SEL). Great car, it was just a purely practical decision. I traded it in for the FR-S thinking screw practicality and future thoughts, I want fun now!

I wouldn't sell the bike. When I got back on it at the end of August there was a huge smile on my face the entire ride. Cars can only come so close to motorcycles. FR-S doesn't do that, especially in the acceleration department. I would have ridden my bike to work today if I hadn't noticed a coolant leak Saturday when I was inspecting it for a ride. I want to figure out where that is coming from before I take it out.

I find myself looking for excuses to drive the car..
"We only have 2 gallons of milk in the fridge, I better go get more!"
"No honey, you relax, I will drive the kids to karate"
"I can run that errand!"

I find myself taking backroads home from work more and more, and also going to stores that are further away and inconvenient just so I can spend more time in the car...

This week I went to take the trash out to the curb and on the way back to the garage took the car out for a 20 minute drive.. Wife had no idea...

I have owned lots of cars. I cannot remember feeling this way since my RX-7...

Sold my gixxer and regret it deeply! I kind of want to pick up that new yamaha 3 cylinder naked bike they have out. I guess it's kind of like being one of those mormon dudes with multiple wives except they are all hot and you can only be with one at a time.

i sold my dual sport after an injury and i regret ever doing it.

if the bike is paid for you have no reason to get rid of it. Doesnt cost you anything but insurance. If anything, just pull the road insurance off it durning the winter and dont even worry about it.

first car for myself...long overdue. driven family cars but its not the same. definetly understand the attachment to it. simple things get me worked up over it. haven't vacuumed it in a few weeks and it feels like i am disrespecting/abusing it. giving it a nice clean tomorrow morning because i feel so bad haha

dont get rid of the bike! even if you only take it out once in a while to enjoy a nice sunny weekend ride, it'll [imo] always be a different kind of fun vs driving

I don't ride my ducati as much as i used to but i'm not selling it just yet.
