Powder coating wheels.

I am going to order XXR 527s and have them powder coated white. My question is what color I should order them in? Would flat black be okay to powder coat? Thanks in advance.

Why don't you order them in flat black and then plasti-dip them white first to see if you like it?

I do like them in white, just wondering if flat black is okay to powder coat, or if I should get them silver then powder coat them.

Maybe you should read this thread before you powder coat them. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46023

I didn't read that thread all the way but I did read part of it. Powdercoating is 100% fine as long as you do it right, and as long as you don't powdercoat then powdercoat again, over and over again. As long as the oven temperatures are fine, the wheel isn't going to diminish in quality too much. Of course it doesn't help when you buy a really low quality wheel to begin with, so that's kind of where that thread lies.

When you powdercoat a wheel mrauburnhd, doesn't matter what color you start with because the wheel needs to be chemically stripped down to bare metal, or sandblasted, so all the color gets removed, so it really doesn't matter what color you start with, you could even mix and match and as long as it's done 100% right it'll all end up being the same color

I probably won't ever buy from either modbargains or yoshihara, but the rustling of jimmies is rustling my jimmies.

If I paint them instead, would I need to go with silver when I order them? Or could the flat black color be stripped down?

I think painting them would be the best course of action. Thanks for the info about powder coating! I learned something new today! Lol

If you've been reading above, it doesn't matter what color you get as it gets stripped down anyway. Yes you can powder coat it, but it is all up to you as it can lead to diminishing the structural integrity.

Yeah I'm talking about just regular paint. I talked to a wheel painter he said it was about 110 per wheel
