Subaru refuses to work on FR-S

I called a few local Subaru dealerships about working on my FRS but each of them said they wouldn't touch my car. One of then even agreed that they were the same car.

Do we know if there is an agreement between Subaru and Toyota not to work on each other's cars? I am specifically interested because one dealer was open to the idea of working on a non-subaru car right up until I said it was a FRS.

Any particular reason for having the work done at a Subaru dealership? I'd rather have the Toyota guys do it, as logic would suggest that they have more experience with them (10x more Scions than Subies.)

Depends on what they are going to work on. If it's an oil change I dont see why not, but if you think about it as a business perspective, they probably dont want to work on your car because if they screw something up then it's gonna be on their ass because they think that it's the same car as the BRZ when it's not. I.E. suspension, OEM HID kit(when FRS is halogen), different radio dash/no navi, different wiring diagrams etc.

There might not be any Toyota places around, and subaru might be the only one he can get to easily?

The work wouldn't be under warranty, so they could think that's what you are assuming to get the work done as I'me sure. Otherwise, there's no reason a shop with ASE certified mechanics would turn down a paying gig.

If it's warranty work, there's no way Toyota is going to warranty a Subaru (and vice versa) for obvious paperwork and financial reasons.

If it's service out of warranty, then that dealer's just turning down liability.

Keep in mind that while this car may be a joint project, the financial responsibility is with each car maker once it leaves the factory. The BRZ is imported as a Subaru, not a Toyota, so for all warranty work it will be a Subaru (and only Subaru dealers can service it for warranty purposes).

lol! WHAT?! @mav1178 is correct here. What you are saying has nothing to do with it. It really does come down to financial responsibility.

If they normally work on any make and model car, I don't see what the problem would be if you're not trying to use your warranty. I'm not saying that they wouldn't do it because of this, legal/financial stuff can be pretty wacky, but from a more simple perspective it seems like if you're willing to pay for the work they're doing, what's the problem?

But if you're going in there asking for free repairs under warranty then... what the hell are you thinking? Might as well go try a Chevrolet dealership too.

umm dealers usually work on their brand. Even if the car is 100% identical I dont see them doing it. 10000000000x that if you are trying for warranty

call more than one dealership because they are all different.
I am taking my Tacoma in for brakes. One local dealer quoted $275 while another said $215. These were both Toyota dealerships.

I'd just call the Toyota dealership and tell them there's a competing shop that will do the work cheaper (don't mention its Subie). See if they'll deal.
