finally swapped midpipes... Now running Perrin Resonated Headerback
below is a video of my new setup for anyone curious about hearing the difference.
www.youtube.com/tylub ^^if you want to check out videos of how it sounded when it was non- resonated. my experience as copied from a conversation a while ago " I am pleased with the new sound as it takes care of the little rasp when the exhaust is cold, and overall it is toned down and more suitable for DD, however, at the same time i miss the raw ROAR of the non-resonated midpipe. The sound sounds a lot more suppressed and in a way, less refined. the sound is a lot quieter and before my girlfriend and my friends could hear me from a few blocks away, and when I show up now, they can barely hear me unless it's in the middle of the night. The ideal exhaust now that I've tried both would be in between resonated and non resonated. (perhaps a smaller resonator in the midpipe would have been sufficient). so to sum everything up, it's a love-hate relationship If you can deal with the little rasp before it is fully warmed, love the raw roar of the exhaust note, and can deal with volume, stay with the non-res (I miss being a tad bit obnoxious hehe...) if you want more DD use out of it, lose the rasp COMPLETELY, planning on headers, want the volume a little lower (compares to my pop's stock cayman exhaust now, although it is still slightly louder) try to trade for the resonated if you have any more questions, let me know " now all I need are headers..

Nice writeup. I love the sound of my non-res Perrin, but if I change out my header, I'll go resonated midpipe as well.

I also had this same exhaust set up. I did the same swap a couple months ago. I have the unresonated midpipe still if I ever want to go back.

I also stole Tylub's pics of his FR-S for my desktop. By far the nicest shots of stock Raven body without ridiculous wheels/slammed.

Hmm, I have the non-resonated pipe and was thinking of swapping to the resonated since I went FI and find myself driving a bit more spirited lately... I'll have to hear it in person, but the resonated sounds a lot quieter than I thought it would.

however, on cold starts, a lot of the noise gets caught in the resonator and makes a very annoying sound in the cabin but once fully warm that's gone. Wasn't used to the noise as I was used to everything getting shot out into the muffler. maybe get a custom resonator for the midpipe? because you WILL miss the sound |
